Interior Designers are responsible for mixing textures, lighting, space work, furniture, and colors in different types of rooms to meet the specific needs of their clients. They plan interior spaces for airport terminals, shopping malls, private residences, theaters, hotels, hospitals, schools, restaurants, offices, among other buildings. These designers may specialize in decorating spaces by choosing color palette and styles to be applied, while other professionals are more involved in architectural detailing such as layouts, crown molding, etc.

Interior Designers usually perform many of the following tasks:
• Interacting with subcontractors.
• Giving value to the expectations of their clients.
•   Documenting processes.
• Purchasing necessary materials.
• Managing negotiations and contracts on client’s behalf.

Education

Applicants for Interior Designer jobs are required to have an Associate´s or Bachelor´s Degree in Interior Design for entry-level positions. Training programs for this field are offered by universities, professional design schools, and colleges and last two to four years. Candidates having Associate´s Degrees are qualified to start working as assistants for experienced interior designers and then move to higher level positions. Those applicants having a Bachelor´s Degree in Interior Design usually qualify for a formal apprenticeship scheme. Students are encouraged to take courses from one of the accredited institutions by the National Association of Schools of Art and Design. These programs include subjects such as drawing, spatial planning, computer-aided design, psychology, ergonomics, architecture, perspective, among other topics.
