Detectives are responsible for performing investigative activities in order to solve criminal cases. They use modern techniques and tools such as computers and communication systems to solve issues related to crime cases. These professionals monitor criminal actions, gather evidence and other information relevant to the case, and arrest suspects of crimes. They tend to work in a secret manner and do not expose their activities to have better findings. They may work at department stores, detective agencies, hotels, law firms, restaurants, among other organizations.

Detectives usually perform many of the following tasks:
• Giving periodical reports to higher officers.
• Getting evidence.
• Following suspects.
• Interviewing witnesses.
• Creating reports of each case.

Education

Applicants for Detective jobs are required to have a High School Diploma or equivalent qualifications. Students who want to work on this area are encouraged to take courses in Social Science, English, Math, Physical Education, and Science to obtain suitable knowledge and skills for future posts. Some police departments demand candidates also having at least two years of College level studies or College Degrees in Police Science, Criminology, and Law. Applicants for these jobs must meet other requirements related weight, height, and general health condition, and pass background checks and drug tests. Once candidates are accepted by the police force they are required to undergo a training program that can last six months to two years.
