CNC Machinists are professionals specialized in operating and maintaining CNC (Computer Numerically Controlled) equipment. They use their expert knowledge to set up machines that are capable of forming, polishing, bending, and cutting raw metal into finished parts. These workers are usually involved in the design of new equipment and products. They team up with programmers and engineers to develop better machines, for instance, those that use water cutting tools or laser devices.

CNC Machinists usually perform many of the following tasks:

Students in these programs learn about workplace guidelines, safety procedures, different CNC machinery, and the latest technology. Apprenticeships available for candidates for this industry last four years and include on-the-job training under the supervision of experienced professionals. The National Institute of Metalworking Skills offers certification for people working on this field by passing a written examination.
