Music teachers are required to instruct students in music applications, both theory and practice. They give to students an overview of the different types of music and lessons about the history of this subject, including the most significant musical time periods. Their classes also include an introduction to some musical instruments, such as drums. As teachers, they may work at schools, colleges, and universities. They also may work as directors for a choir or band.

Education

Music Teacher jobs at schools require candidates having one or more degrees in Teaching and Music. There are several paths to obtain these titles, but one recommended way is to study a Bachelor´s Degree in Music Education and then complete a Teacher training scheme. It is also necessary to have a State Board of Education teaching license. In the case of lessons in the private sector, candidates are not required to have a specific set of qualifications, they just need suitable skills and past work experience for job application.

For those applicants who want to work at Colleges or Universities, they need to have a Doctoral or Master´s degree and some years of work experience as teachers.
