Insurance Broker

Insurance brokers act as the important link between customers and insurance companies, using their market knowledge to track down the best possible deals for their clients. An insurance broker takes note of the individual client’s requirements and after researching various policies and negotiating with insurers, arranges cover
Other key duties include processing accounts, collecting premiums and renewing or making changes to existing policies. Suitable candidates must be skilled negotiators with good business sense. They must also have excellent communication skills as the work involves advising claimants and writing reports for surveyors and underwriters
Brokers typically start out as junior account handlers or insurance technicians and work their way up. The minimum qualifications are usually GCSEs in English and mathematics at grade C or above, although A levels are often required to get onto management training schemes. Salaries start at £15,000 per annum, which could rise to £40,000 with experience. Senior staff can expect earnings of between £50,000 and £100,000.
