  • I'm not being hired because of personal questions. I need advice. Last updated by Klarit: May 29, 2020 View last comments

Hello I’m a fiber optic technician and lately I’ve been doing some interviews. From what they say to me I nail the technical stuff but I need to get better at my personal skills. I don’t know what I’m doing wrong but I feel it has something to do with the more personal questions they always ask. Every time I get asked these questions I go nuts. For example when they ask me about my ability to work under pressure, what do I consider to be my weakness, what do I see myself in five years… Can you please let me know if there is any tip I should be aware of? Thank you !

    • Hello Hector, I see where you’re coming from, this is a very common problem believe it or not. But I feel I can give you a couple of tips on the first question that I think is the most important, the ability to work under pressure never lie, but if you are good working under pressure a couple of tips I can give you in the way you express it is : say that you thrive under certain types of pressure and give examples related to the position you applied for. Don’t give examples where you have created the pressure yourself by waiting too long to start a project or by handling a task irresponsibly at the beginning. Instead mention a routine under pressure such as dealing with deadlines with customers etc. Keep this in mind and you’ll be good!

    • Hello there , I was also struggling with the question about your future, I think that is pretty hard because at some point you need to be realistic and separate your dreams from the reality. And I did a lot of research about this topic. A lot.
Just think about why do they ask this question, they want to know of you are one of those who goes through jobs like socks and they don’t have a life plan and your answer can show insight into this. They also probably want to know if you set goals for yourself because those who make long term goals are usually more reliable, also is a nice way to see if the job suits you, they don’t want to set a future for yourself that is not aligns with the goals you set for you. Hope this helped
      Good luck!

    • If such a story in all interviews then you need to understand yourself. What you're doing wrong and why you're being denied.
