  • company fidelity? No experience and high salary Felix

I’m a programmer and designer and I’ve been working for the same company for 4 years now, It’s the first job I got so I only have that experience. Now I want to expand my horizons and since me and my wife want to bring a child to this works I started looking for another job. The only problem I see here is that the “good quality” offers that can provide me that high of a income are all looking for someone with experience with PeopleSoft software experience (mandatory) and I’ve never used this in my life. I thought about applying but I don’t want to crew up my image with these companies because maybe one day I’ll work with them. Advice please? Have you ever gone through something like this or similar? What would you do if you were in my position?
    Felix

    • Irene:

Hi Felix , I went though something very similar last year and I made it! I’m going to explain how I did it, but I have to warn you that it’s not a easy and fast solution and you maybe need a year or two. I am an illustrator and always worked on paper and then send to my editor so they digitalize my work. I’ve been doing this for 10 years in the same company, but then I saw my dream job in the most amazing company where I’ve always wanted to work. They asked for Photoshop, illustrator and InDesign pro with almost 5 years of experience! I was sook. I never thought I was going to need to learn how to properly use it . It actually sound lame to me now that an illustrator doesn’t know how to use those tools but tbh the company where I was in didn’t work that way. I spent one weekend thinking about it and doing my research. Then I came into the conclusion that I wanted that job so I took a job that payed me what I was already earing in my las one where I spend the last 10 years of my life and also got myself and did a bunch of courses that taught me how to use it. Now last month with one year of experience I applied for that job, although the application wasn’t live anymore I contacted them introducing myself and sending my cv. They gave me the chance to go to an interview and ask me about my portfolio with all my designs and illustrations. Now It’s been 3 weeks since I work here and I’m the happiest I’ve ever been. I have the highest salary I’ve ever had and working in a way much efficient and up to date ever. So happy with my personal and professional growth. So my advice is; DON’T BE AFRAID. Take chances (responsibly) and you’ll see results! Hope this story time helped and good luck!!

    • Teamme:

It's true that you really need to just throw your hate in the ring and take a chance. Get some further education if you can and then go for it. There is a saying about the biggest regrets in life being the chances you don't take and it's so true.
