Paralegals are required to help lawyers to prepare for hearings, closings, corporate meetings, and trials. They investigate the facts of specific cases and then make sure that all relevant information is considered, such as judicial decisions, appropriate laws, legal articles, etc. Once they collect all necessary information, they create reports for attorneys in order to use in determining how cases should be handled. These professionals also organize files of important case documents for easy access.

Paralegals usually perform many of the following tasks:

Paralegal jobs usually require applicants having an Associate´s Degree in Paralegal Studies or a Bachelor´s Degree in other related fields. Suitable programs for this area are offered by community colleges that provide an Associate´s Degree once the scheme is completed. Degrees mentioned before include paralegal training and courses in other academic subjects. Training programs are offered by several institutions such as proprietary schools, universities, law schools, and colleges approved by the American Bar Association. Persons who want to study at schools related to this field are required to have a High School Diploma and, in some cases, college courses or a Bachelor´s Degree.

Professionals who want to have a certification to work in this business must meet the standards established by the National Association of Legal Assistants. Candidates must pass an exam in order to obtain the Certified Paralegal or Certified Legal Assistant certification.
