Safety Managers are responsible for preventing accidents in business and job sites. These professionals make sure that different workplaces meet safety and health requirements and then apply corrective measures if necessary. They create programs such as company policies, investigate in cases of accidents, and implement post-injury follow up procedures for workers. They may work at both public and private sector in different types of organizations.

Safety Managers usually perform many of the following tasks:

Some companies demand professionals having also a Master´s Degree in Industrial Hygiene or related academic qualifications. Internship programs in Safety Management are offered by several universities and institutions. Some government agencies and companies offer on-the-job training programs for applicants in order to provide suitable skills and knowledge for future duties.

Professionals who are working on this area are not required to have a certification, but this qualification increases job opportunities in some organizations. Among certifications for this field are the Certified Safety Professional, Certified Biological Safety Professional, and the Certified Industrial Hygienist that are offered by institutions such as the American Society of Safety Engineers.
