They usually assist scientists and engineers and their duties are related to product inspection, quality control, data collection, and tests. Education
Most Engineering Technician jobs require people having a postsecondary training or an Associate Degree in Engineering Technology. These courses are offered by extension divisions of Universities and Colleges, Technical Institutes, Community Colleges, and private and public Vocational-technical Schools. Employers usually prefer candidates having 2-year Associate degrees because people having less training need more time to learn suitable skills for this area. It is also recommended that candidates take as many High School Math and Science courses as possible to prepare for Engineering programs at higher levels.
Associate degree programs include college trigonometry, algebra, and one or two basic science subjects. The Technology Accreditation Commission of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology gives accreditation to these programs.
