Debt Collector

Debt collectors will usually work as part of an in-house team for a large company or for a collection agency which works independently on behalf of its client. The job involves contacting customers who have defaulted on payments for goods or services to find out why the funds are overdue. If there is a dispute, the collector may refer the debtor to customer services. If the bill is determined to be valid, then it is the debt collector’s job to ensure payment
Excellent organisational skills are required for this job as meticulous records need to be kept of every stage of the collection process for legal purposes. Good communication skills are also essential as is the ability to remain calm in what can become an emotional situation
It is the job of the debt collector to do everything possible to help the debtor come up with a strategy for repayment. In the event that this is not possible, then recourse to legal action may be required. Earnings, depending on experience, average between £20,000 and £25,000 per year.
